DEVICE FOR SEVERING RIBBED BOARDS

Plastic multi-skin sheets are cut off with a cutter which is raised to just above the melting point of the plastic material; during the cutting process its supply of heating energy is increased. The core material for the sheet is produced in an extruder and the extrusion is passed from an oven to the point where it meets the skins; the combined sheet is conveyed then to the cutter and the cut sheets are removed by a conveyor. Between cutting operations the cutting tool is held at 200-300 deg. C (for polycarbonate) but is made hotter still during cutting itself. The tool is U-shaped.
