PURPOSE:To obtain an electrically conductive polymer compsn. which does not cause dedoping even when stored in a doped state over a long period of time, by polymerizing a monomer capable of forming an anionic polyelectrolyte in the presence of a polymer having a pi-electron conjugated structure. CONSTITUTION:A monomer capable of forming an anionic polyelectrolyte (e.g., acrylic acid or styrenesulfonic acid) is polymerized in the presence of a polymer having a pi-electron conjugated structure (e.g., polyacetylene or polyisothiana phthene). In this way, an electrically conducive polymer compsn., wherein the formed anionic polyelectrolyte is uniformly dispersed in the polymer having a pi-electron conjugated structure, can be obtd. The electrical conductivity of the polymer compsn. can be increased by electrochemically doping the compsn., if it is necessary to increase the electrical conductivity of the polymer compsn. The compsn. is suitable for use as an electrode material for display elements, etc.
