PURPOSE:To improve a muffling effect, by expanding pulsating discharge gas out of a compressor at a space part and, after the pulsation is damped, comminuting the pulsating wave by a wave comminuting member, then dispersing it into a microwave. CONSTITUTION:And outdoor unit in a separate type heat pump air conditioner is made up of installing a muffling device 4 in a discharge pipe 2a of a compressor performing compression of a refrigerant. In this case, the muffling device 4 is provided with an inflow port 3a and an outflow port 3b of the refrigerant, while is has a casing 3 with a space part 6 having a larger section area than that of the discharge pipe 2a, and it is constituted of fitting a wire filter 7 consisting of one piece of wire rolled in coil form in this casing at the side of the outflow port 3b. And, discharge gas being pulsated in the space part 6 is expanded to some extent, while the pulsated wave of the discharge gas is divided in succession with the wire filter 7 and dispersed into a microwave whereby it secures a high muffling effect.
