The invention comprises anthraquinone dyes of the formula <FORM:1065477/C4-C5/1> wherein Z represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C1- 4 alkyl group; A represents a primary, secondary or tertiary amino group, and n is 0, 1 or 2. They may be obtained by treating anthraquinone compounds of the formula <FORM:1065477/C4-C5/2> with at least a stoichiometric amount of chlorosulphonic acid at a temperature up to 70 DEG C. and reacting the resultant sulphochlorides with at least an equimolar amount of NH3, or a primary or secondary amine including heterocyclic bases containing nitrogen in the ring. Examples are given for the production of the dyes. They may be used for dyeing or printing fibrous synthetic material such as polyamides, polyurethanes, polyesters, wool, silk, secondary acetate rayon, cellulose triacetate and natural or regenerated cellulose. |
