The machine frame (1) of a gluing apparatus has a base (2) constructed in the form of a framework and two posts (3) which project upwards from the latter and away from which there project supporting bars (6) which form a plurality of horizontal supporting planes (A, B, C, D, E). Stepwise-adjustable skid-like abutment shoes (7), which carry abutment bars (12) in a pivotably adjustable manner by means of vertical bearing bolts (13), are guided on the supporting bars (6). A packed layer of boards (31) can be clamped between the abutment bars (12) and bearing bars (23) attached to the posts (3), for the gluing operation. For this purpose, a pressure tube (18), which can be connected to a compressed-air source via a valve (21) attached to the post (3), bears against each bearing bar (23). The base (2) may also be mobile by way of castors (28), and the supporting bars (6) can be lengthened telescopically or by frontal connection. The gluing apparatus is of simple and well-arranged construction, and of compact and operationally reliable design. It is easy to operate and move and can be accommodated in defined spaces, especially low spaces. In addition, the production and operating costs are low. <IMAGE>
