A clamping tool which is capable of being operated with one hand, comprises a movable jaw (25) and an opposing pivotable jaw (12) with the gap between the jaws being adjustable and the jaws being lockable in the adjusted position. The movable jaw (25) is supported for movement along an extension bar (23) which is fixed at an angle, e.g. 90 DEG , to a fixed handle (11) and means are provided for holding the movable jaw (25) securely at any point therealong. In this respect the preferred hand tool has a channelled support (27) holding the movable jaw (25) to one face of the extension bar (23) and a spacer (28) to the opposite face thereof. Also preferred is an arcuate corner at the end of the movable jaw (25) whereby it can be fixed at any point along the extension bar (23) by gravity. <IMAGE>
