An improved production process which makes it possible in particular to get rid of the EBV genome and which therefore yields a monoclonal antibody which can be used not only in serodiagnostic tests for the cytomegalo virus (CMV) but also potentially useful in vivo in the prophylaxis and/or the treatment of infections with CMV. The invention also covers the detection of the virus in various biopsy tissues or bronchoalveolar washing with this monoclonal antibody.
