A firing stove, in particular a tile-stove insert for burning solid fuels, can be optimised to reduce the emission of harmful substances and to improve the utilisation of the fuel, it being assumed that the stove is of the type having, from the bottom upwards, an ash pit (3), a fuel chamber (4), a combustion chamber (5), a contact point (6) with transversely extending webs, and a post-combustion chamber (7). The contact point has a cross-section narrower than the fuel chamber, and a dividing wall (13), rising obliquely at an angle of, for example, 25 to 30@ from a side wall (15) of the stove, leads up to said contact point, air inlets (28, 30, 32), which can be controlled as regards their air throughput such they are optimally adapted to the respective phase of the firing course, are arranged in the region of the ash pit, in the region of the combustion chamber under the contact point and in the region of the post-combustion chamber above the contact point. <IMAGE>
