PURPOSE:To prevent the effect of external noise or the like by outputting a digital image signal by a potential comparison between an analog signal from a D/A conversion means and an analog image signal read by an image read element. CONSTITUTION:An image read element 2 is placed on a prescribed part of an original at first and a control circuit 1 uses a digital code generating means 7 to take in a digital code based on a command of image read. The digital code is converted into an analog signal by a D/A conversion means 4 and the digital image signal is outputted by the comparison between the analog signal and the image signal read by the element 2. Thus, the density is adjusted simply by using a digital code. Thus, the effect of external noise or the like is prevented.
