The lockable clamping cylinder-piston unit has a housing (6) provided with two connections (A, B) for supplying the clamping unit with fluid, and with a mounting opening (7). The connections (A, B) are essentially perpendicular to the axis of the mounting opening (7). The cylinder cavity, which receives the slidingly arranged clamping piston (1), is encased in the mounting opening (7). The locking wedge (2) abuts on the console-type part (9) of the clamping piston (1). The locking wedge (2) is actuated by the locking piston (3) arranged in a further coaxial cylinder cavity. The locking wedge (2) is supported by a non-sliding supporting wedge (4) fixed in the housing. This design makes it possible to obtain a compact clamping cylinder-piston unit which, even in the pressure-free condition at the end of the clamping process, remains permanently and form-engagingly locked and maintains a constant high clamping force.
