PURPOSE:To enable to cause attenuation of light without installing a separate attenuator by incorporating an impurity contg. OH groups in a welded part of optical fiber in the stage of welding of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:An optical attenuation system is constituted of two optical fibers 1, 1 to be welded, a fixing stand 2 for fixing the optical fibers, a device 3 for generating high temp., and a pipe 4 for feeding an impurity contg. OH groups in the stage of welding. In this system, an impurity contg. OH groups having optical attenuation effect is incorporated into the welded part of two optical fibers 1, 1 to be welded. Attenuation of light is attained by utilizing positively absorption of light by OH group, which has been conventionally considered as a defective effect, thus, attenuation of light has become possible without installing a separate optical attenuator constructed of precise members of the mechanism. |
