PURPOSE:To obtain slabs having a uniform width and thickness by bloom rolling an ingot having a nonrectangular section by a horizontal roll at a specific draft with the ingot restricted by a vertical roll. CONSTITUTION:An ingot 22 is held between an upper roll 12 and a lower roll 14 of a horizontal roll 10 and moving rolls 18, 20 of a vertical roll 16 are positioned to have a prescribed distance wider than a width of the ingot 22. A roll gap between the rolls 12, 14 is narrowed by a drafting screw 36 to provide a drafting force to roll the ingot 22 at a >=5% draft per rolling. Then, rollings are repeated so that the ingot 22 has a prescribed thickness. On the other hand, the vertical roll 16 restricts the ingot 22 so that a width of the ingot 22 does not spread wider than the set width between the rolls 18, 20. Thus, the width and thickness of slabs are uniformized. |
