PURPOSE:To save the trouble of operation using a read input and a code input depending on the purpose by using the content of information stored tentatively so as to switch the input form of input information. CONSTITUTION:When a read/period input is depressed by a keyboard 2, the information representing the key depression for read/period input is obtained from a central processing unit 1. The data content of a temporary storage device 7 is confirmed by a confirming means 10 for temporary storage information and whether the read input or the code input is to be used is decided by a character information switching means 11 depending on the presence of read data for KANA/KANJI conversion. Either a read input device 8 or a code input device 9 is executed depending on the result.
