PURPOSE:To perform uniform coating while preventing a compound from penetrating in the overlapped part of shield layers, in coating the shield layer of a communication cable with the compound, by providing a scraping plate and a squeeze die both of which have specific structures in a coating tank. CONSTITUTION:A running cable 14 is allowed to run through a coating tank 2, to which a moistureproof compound heated to predetermined temp. is recirculated and supplied from a moistureproof compound heating and insulating tank 1, at the same speed as the extrusion molding speed of an outer cover. At this time, when the interval between the free end of the scraping plate 6 fixed to a pin 5 at one end thereof in a revolvable manner and the running cable 14 is regulated so that the overlapped upper surface direction side of a shield layer becomes narrow, the liquid level of the highly viscous compound becomes higher toward the free end of the scraping plate 6. When the running cable 14 is allowed to pass through a squeeze die 15 in this state, the compound extends only in the overlapped upper surface direction of the shield layer by the action of the fanwise spiral groove formed to the inner surface of the die to be made uniform.
