PURPOSE:To prevent the amount of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) from changing due to the clogging of a filter for catching carbon particles by a method wherein exhaust gas is recirculated only when a passage to bypass the filter, which catches carbon particles in the exhaust gas emitted from a diesel engine. CONSTITUTION:The downstream of the turbocharger 10 in the exhaust pipe 12 of a diesel engine 8 consists in branching in an exhaust pipe 16, in which a filter 14 to catch carbon particles in exhaust gas is arranged, and an exhaust pipe 18 to bypass said pipe 16 and in equipping with a change-over valve 20 at the branch point of the exhaust pipes 16 and 18. When the regeneration of the filter 14 is intended, the bypassing exhaust pipe 18 is open and at the same time a burner 22 and an air pump 26 are put into actuation in order to incinerate the particles clogged in the filter 14. The upstream side of the turbocharger 10 in the exhaust pipe and the downstream side of a compressor 6 in the suction pipe of the engine 8 are connected to each other by an EGR passage equipped with an EGR control valve 13 therein. The EGR control valve 15 actuates itself only when the bypassing exhaust pipe 18 is open. |
