PURPOSE:To introduce excessive oil from a supply oil passage into a closed oil chamber by disposing a relief valve which opens when the hydraulic pressure of the supply oil passage exceeds a set value, in a casing, and by providing a passage connecting between the closed oil chamber and the relief valve in a motor cylinder or between the motor cylinder and an input shaft. CONSTITUTION:A residual leaking oil from shoes 33 and the slide surface of a swash plate 32 and hydraulic oil relieved from a supply oil passage 137 through an opened relief valve 50 are led through a communication passage 47 into a second chamber 31b in a closed oil chamber 31 defined between a pump cylinder 4 and a motor cylinder 8. In this arrangement, a hydraulic passage 84 is provided between the motor cylinder 8 and an input shaft 2, and therefore, it is possible to lead excessive oil from a replenishing pump F into the closed oil chamber 31 without the structure and size of a conventional hydraulic transmission being greatly changed.
