PURPOSE:To improve the ductility and toughness and to reduce cracks by primarily rolling a continuously cast alpha stainless steel slab containing Cr of a specific amount to give rolling strains to the slab and heating the slab up to the recrystallization temp. to recrystallize and uniformize the structure, and to relieve residual stresses. CONSTITUTION:An alpha stainless steel slab containing >=16% Cr is manufactured by a continuous casting method and then immediately heated up to a temp. in the range of 900-1200 deg.C and is drafted by >=20%. Next, the slab is immediately heated in the range of the recrystallization temp. to a temp. of (recrystallization temp. +100 deg.C) for 0.5-2.0 Hr and naturally cooled or slowly cooled. Thus, the ductility and toughness are improved, the cracks occurring at cooled piece forming are reduced, and the hardness is reduced to be capable of reworking.
