Novel 4 - amino-2,2,6,6 - tetramethyl - 4 - carboxy-piperidine-nitroxide and its metal salts are prepared by reacting 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4- oxo-piperidine-nitroxide with ammonium carbonate dissolved in alcohol and a solution of an alkali metal cyanide, agitating the mixture. filtering off the precipitate of spiro-[5,4<SP>1</SP>- hydantoin-2<SP>1</SP>2<SP>1</SP>,6<SP>1</SP>,6<SP>1</SP>-tetramethyl piperidine nitroxide formed and hydrolysing the precipitate using barium hydroxide at a temperature of the order of 160‹ C. under pressure, followed where desired by salt formation.</p> |
