PURPOSE:To easily generate a position signal by forming a code pattern for position detection on a beltlike magnetic film whose one surface is coated with an adhesive by the same method with normal sound recording. CONSTITUTION:A position generation body consists of the beltlike body 1, a magnetic body layer 2 formed on one surface of the film 1, an adhesive layer 3 which is applied on the other surface of the film 1, and a sheet 4 for adhesive layer protection which protects the adhesive layer 3 and can be peeled off the adhesive layer 3 until the layer is adhered to an object of position detection. The sheet 4 of the position detection body is peeled off and the adhesive layer 3 is adhered at a specific position of the object 5. The code pattern for position detection is detected by providing a magnetic head to the layer 2 in a noncontacting or contacting state.
