PURPOSE:To obtain a recording and reproducing device with a low cost cartridge and a one-sided head specification without lowering recording and reproducing capacity by providing the cutout for specifying an insertion direction not in the whole thickness of a cartridge case but in a specified thickness as to a thickness width direction. CONSTITUTION:A titled cartridge provides a cartridge case 1 and a recording disk body 2 which is housed to be flexible to rotate in the cartridge case 1 and the output 5 for specifying the insertion direction in case of inserting into the recording and reproducing device is provided not in the whole thickness of the cartridge 1 but in the specified thickness as to the thickness width direction. Thus, as for the recording and reproducing device with two-sided head specification only insertion in one direction can be executed because of the cutout for specifying the insertion direction. And as for the recording and reproducing device with one-sided head specification both A side and B side can be inserted by inverting and the recording and reproducing device with the low cost cartridge and one-sided heat specification can be realized without lowering the recording and reproducing capacity.
