<p>The present invention is directed to an improved method and appartus for venting sterilizers having liquid loads. The venting mechanism (20) for discharging steam from sterilizing chamber (12) has a variable effective orifice area controllable in response to decreasing pressure. The effective CV of the venting mechanism (20) increases as the pressure decreases, thereby compressing the venting stage of a sterilization cycle without increasing the loss of liquid inherently experienced in sterilizing liquid loads.</p> |
