PURPOSE:To always control a distance between a head and a recording medium in a specified quantity and to attain the secure recording and reproducing of information by detecting the distance between the head and the recording medium by utilizing the variation of electric capacity between electrodes provided in the head and altering the distance according to the electric capacity. CONSTITUTION:At least two electrodes 11 and 12 arranged on the side facing the recording medium 6 of the head 1, a distance adjustment parts 20-23 which varies the distance (d) between the head 1 and the recording medium 6 according to the electric capacity between the electrodes 11 and 12 which varies according to the distance between the electrodes 11 and 12 and the recording medium 6 are provided. Since the electric capacity according to the distance (d) between the head 1 and the recording medium 6 is generated between the electrodes 11 and 12, the distance adjustment 20-23 detect the electric capacity. The distance (d) between the head 1 and the recording medium 6 is known, thus, and the distance between the head 1 and the recording medium 6 are varied according to the distance (d) so as to control the distance between the head 1 and the recording medium 6 is always controlled in the specified value.
