PURPOSE:To prevent the disturbance of images based on toner color mixture by charging a latent image carrier with the potential for seal cleaning, whose polarity is opposite to that of toner, at a prescribed timing and removing toner stuck to the sealing means of a developing device by this charged potential to perform the cleaning process. CONSTITUTION:Toner remaining on a photosensitive drum 1 is swept off by a cleaning device, and a developing roll 3b is stopped when a developer completely runs out. After this shut-off operation, the photosensitive drum 1 is electrically charged for a prescribed time. The polarity of this charging is opposite to that of toner. When a potential generating part given in such a manner is brought into contact with a sealing body 14b, toner stuck and accumulated on the sealing body 14b is attracted to the photosensitive drum 1 by the potential, and this toner is carried to a cleaning device and is swept off. Thus, the satisfactory developing operation free from color mixture is performed.
