PURPOSE:To form a three-dimensional pattern having a striking ornamental effect on a metal surface, by making the metal surface rugged so as to form a prescribed pattern and by sticking paint films having different colors to the recessed and projecting parts. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive film 3 is formed on the cleaned front side 2 of a metal chip 1 and a film 4 having a drawn pattern is adhered to the film 3. UV (arrows) is radiated on the film 3 through the film 4 to expose the film 3 and a film 3 having the same pattern as the film 4 is formed by development. An etching resistant film is formed on the rear side of the chip 1 on which no film 3 is present and the chip 1 is treated in an etching soln. to etch only the part not covered with the film 3 and to form a recessed part 6. A colored paint film 7 is stuck to the part 6 by electrodeposition, the etching resistant film is removed and a paint film 10 is formed on the projecting part 9 by electrodeposition. Thus, a metal chip 1 having a three-dimensional pattern is obtd.
