A tool for use in the erection of a brick wall 1 made of blocks 3 having vertical ducts 4 is configured as a plug 5, which is designed to be fitted in the vertical ducts before mortar 6 is introduced between the blocks 3. The mortar is hereby prevented from penetrating into and blocking the ducts 4 such that these can be used in an otherwise known manner for running through leads, cables, etc. Each plug 5 preferably has a spring 9, 11, which acts as "barbs" and prevents the plug 5 from falling down through the duct 4. Grip recesses 8 at the top of the plug 5 make it easier to lift the plug from one course to the next. <IMAGE>
