PURPOSE:To smoothly float a magnetic head and to reduce cost by disposing a base body with a protective film in an atmosphere having a uniform temp. distribution and depositing a lubricating layer thereon, thereby uniformizing the thickness of the lubricating layer deposited thereon. CONSTITUTION:The pressure in the space of a lubricating layer depositing device having a thermostatic chamber 10 and a base body holder 11 for disposing the base body 6 with the protective film in the thermostatic chamber 10 forms a hermetic space of the atmospheric pressure in the case of depositing the lubricating layer on the protective film of the base body 6. More specifically, the holder 11 which supports the base body 6 by passing the same on a supporting bar 11c and a vessel 12 for a lubricating agent contg. the fluorocarbon lubricating agent 13 in the state of a stock soln. are carried into the thermostatic chamber 10 by opening a part 10d11 of the side face 10d1 of said chamber and is imposed on an imposing plate 10a; thereafter 10d11 is closed to form the hermetic space. The temp. in the chamber 10 is then maintained at 150 deg.C+ or -2 deg.C by a controller 10f between an AC power supply 10c and a temp. sensor 10e. The thickness of the lubricating layer deposited on the base body is thereby uniformized and the magnetic head is smoothly floated at the time of rotation; in addition, the cost of production is reduced.
