PURPOSE:To obtain the title optical fiber tape capable of easily separating optical fiber strands and having excellent practical usability by imparting a specified Young's modulus in the lengthwise direction to the coated layer consisting of LCP having a specified group in the coating material of the optical fiber tape. CONSTITUTION:The thermotropic liq. crystal polymer (LCP) is the aromatic polyester contg. 10-30mol.% A group and 10-30mol.% B group, where the A group and the B group are equivalent, and 40-80mol.% C group. The groups A, B, and C are respectively expressed by the formulas. The LCP forms an anisotropic melt layer at 240-320 deg.C, and the Young's modulus in the lengthwise direction of the layer coated on the optical fiber is adjusted to >=7GPa. The intrinsic viscosity of LCP is preferably controlled to >=0.3. Since the LCP is oriented in the specified direction in the LCP coated layer, the strength of the tape in the lengthwise direction is increased, and conversely the strength in the direction orthogonal to the lengthwise direction is decreased. As a result, the optical fiber strands can be easily separated.
