PRODUCING METHOD FOR POLY-P-HYDROXYBUTRIC ACID BY FED BATCH CULTURE

Poly-β-hydroxybutyric acid (PHB), useful as a suture, medical films and coating, is prod. from fructose by fed-batch culture of Alcaligenes eutrophus ATCC 17699 with controlled carbon feeding. Thus, the seed culture of A. eutrophus was inoculated to a medium contg. 1.0 fructose, 0.1 ammonium, 0.15 KH2PO4 and 0.02% MgSO4 and cultivated at 30≦̸C under submerged aerobic conditions until nitrogen deficency occured. Fed-batch culture was carried out for further 24hr with supplying 30% (w/v) fructose soln. at the constant rate of 8.0ml/hr to give 12.0 g/l PHB.
