PURPOSE:To obtain a silver halide emulsion having high sensitivity, hardly causing fogging and contg. silver chloride-based flat platy particles having a satisfactory particle size distribution by adding a gold salt or the gold salt and a rhodium or iridium salt when a halide soln. is mixed with a silver salt soln. CONSTITUTION:When silver halide particles in which flat platy silver halide particles contg. >=about 50mol.% silver chloride and having >=5:1 average aspect ratio and confronting parallel {111} principal crystal faces account for at least 60% of the projection area of all the particles are produced, a gold compd. or the gold compd. combined preferably with at least one of rhodium and iridium compds. is used. An emulsion hardly causing fogging and contg. silver chloride-based flat platy particles having a high aspect ratio can be produced. |
