PURPOSE:To prevent loss of effective data in a document by reading out data except data in certain addresses to a memory in accordance with a set size if the register size of a picture is larger than the set size set at the time of displaying picture information. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 1 takes out file management information, which is registered on an optical disk of a storage device 2, together with read picture information. It is discriminated whether the file register size for picture information registration is equal to the display size or not. If it is discriminated that the register size is larger than the display size, the CPU 1 initializes a memory 4 and executes the read-in processing to transfer data from the storage device 2 to the memory 4 thereafter. Information read from the storage device 2 is transferred to the area, whose X address is (m2-m1)/2-(m2+m1)/2 and Y address is (n2-n1)/2-(n2+n1) /2, of the memory 4, and approximately entire picture information except the peripheral part is displayed though the display size is smaller.
