PURPOSE:To observe a body to be observed in a wavelength area most suitable for the body to be observed by assigning output signals of an image pickup means due to illuminating light beams, which are selectively transmitted through a transmission part having spectral transmission characteristics different from one another, to color signals different from one another and performing the video signal processing. CONSTITUTION:A condenser lens 16 and a rotating filter 28 driven and rotated by a driving part 27 are arranged in front of a strobe light source 25, and the light emitted from the strobe light source 25 passes the lens 26 and is made incident on the rotating filter 28. The strobe light source 25 emits light only when filters corresponding to three illuminating light beams selected by a set switch 60 out of filters 28a-28i of the rotating filter 28 are placed on the optical path. Thus, three arbitrary illuminating light beams are selected from nine light beams in accordance with an observation position, an observation purpose, etc., and the image of the object is displayed in colors by assignment of arbitrary colors, and a diseased part or the like which is difficult to discriminate in an image of a normal visible area is easily discriminated.
