The elevator control signal is transmitted in a single transmission line (12) by installing a signal transmitter (13) in a cage and a signal demodulator (11) in a control room. The signal transmitter (13) comprises switches, latch circuits, a parallel/serial data converter, a demultiplier, a counter, and a decoder so that parallel data generated in the cage are converted to serial data and transmitted to the control room through a single transmission line. The signal demodulator includes a serial/parallel data converter and a decoder so that the received serial data is converted to parallel form in the control room.
