PURPOSE:To provide possibility of automatic fitting/removal of works in different shapes on/from a lathe capable of complex processings by using a pallet for retaining a work at a work spindle on a spindle table, and by fitting/ removing the pallet on/from the work spindle. CONSTITUTION:At a working table 51 is work is fitted by hand on a pallet 4 for holding work. This pallet 4 is temporarily stored in a pallet magazine 71 and then fitted on a work spindle on a spindle table 3 from this pallet magazine 71, and it is possible to fit regardless of work configuration. At this time, pallets 4 are in the same construction, so that transfer devices 83, 92 to use for transfer of pallet 4 has simple construction.
