PURPOSE:To check the production of defective yarn, by stopping a winding job of the said winding unit if a fact that end down has not occurred, whereas a cutter is operated by yarn defect detection is detected. CONSTITUTION:During travel of yarn 3, if a thick yarn part and a fine yarn part, a slub part, or the like are detected by a slub catcher 8, a control unit 13 outputs a yarn down cutting command 14 by a slub signal 12, performing yarn cutting by a cutter device 7, and when a yarn travel signal 15 comes off, it outputs an ending command 16 to an ending device 9, performing ending action. Here, when the travel signal 15 out of the slub catcher 8 is not turned off, whereas the yarn cutting command 14 is outputted and the cutter device 7 is driven, a controller 25 detects it as a cutting miss, emitting an alarm signal, while it stops the subsequent winding action. Thus, any trouble in the cutter is speedily detected, and the production of defective yarn is checkable.
