PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of a marking operation by a method wherein slide tables provided on the right and left of a measuring tape as the center and having a line-drawing stylus respectively are constructed so that a straight-line mark is given thereby in a perpendicular direction in accordance with the set position of the fitted measuring tape. CONSTITUTION:A hook 15' provided in the fore end of a measuring tape 15 is set on the end face of a material, the tape is uncoiled to an intended dimension, a setting plate 3 is put on the end face of the material, and a slide table 7 on the side whereon a mark is intended to be given is pushed inward. Then a lock pin 9 drops in a hole 5' and is held therein. When the scale of the measuring tape 15 is set to the surface of the exit 14 of the tape and a key 13 is pushed, subsequently, a leaf spring 12' is released to push down a table 4, and thereby a line-drawing stylus is applied with pressure onto the surface of the material. Simultaneously the lock pin 9 of the slide table 7 touches a support 5 and is pushed up thereby to escape from a hole 5' of the support 5. Being released from a caught state, consequently, the slide table 7 is made to return instantaneously by an operation spring 11. On the occasion, a straight line mark 17 is given perpendicularly to the surface of the material 16 by the line- drawing stylus, and thus the efficiency of operation is improved.
