IDENTIFICATION OF MATERIAL AND INSTRUMENT FOR SAME

PURPOSE:To enable whether an unknown material is different from a known material or not to be discriminated by Fourier-transforming spectral information on the known and unknown materials to extract phase information on the materials and taking a correlation therebetween. CONSTITUTION:The N spectral data are stored in an infrared absorption spectrum library 11. The spectral data of an unknown specimen 20 are obtained by an infrared spectrophotometer 21 and transformed by Fourier transform means 23 to become Fourier-transformed data 24. Only the phase terms of the data 24 are extracted by phase extracting means 25 to become phase component data 26. The data 26 are converted to complex conjugate data 30 by means 29 for performing complex conjugates. On the other hand, one spectral data 12 is selected from the library 11, Fourier-transformed and phase-extracted to become phase component data 16. The data 30 and 16 are inversely Fourier- transformed via a multiplier 31 to become a phase correlation function and its similarity is obtained by processing means 33 to be outputted from output means 34.
