PURPOSE:To obtain a recording picture equivalent to that which a transmission side transmits in a normal mode by thinning picture information at every other line so as to record them with respect to a fine mode from an opposite side in an equipment which can execute recording only in the normal mode. CONSTITUTION:When an opposite side request mode is a fine mode, further communication is executed with the opposite side as 'there is the fine mode', and then picture information is received from an opposite side. When received picture information is odd-numbered line (scanline), the picture information is written in a picture memory 25, and the picture information is judged to be the last line or not. When received picture information is the even-numbered line, it is judged to be the last line or not without recording picture information. When it is not the last line, picture information is received, succeeding picture information is received, whether it is the odd-numbered line or not is judged, and picture information is recorded. When the line in which picture information is recorded goes to the last line, the flowing is terminated.
