PURPOSE:To execute a satisfactory tracking job with no mistake by displaying a part of a circuit diagram of the periphery of a tracking element as well as said circuit diagram in a tracking process when an error element is searched. CONSTITUTION:When the tracking start point on a signal line is indicated on the picture of a CRT 5 by a pointing device 6, a circuit element connected to the signal line is tracked by a tracking module 6 at the tracking start point based on a circuit diagram stored in a circuit diagram storing part 4. Thus said circuit element is searched and the specific information on this circuit element such as the name of the element, the sheet number, the arrangement position, etc., is registered into a tracking element memory part 12. Then a display module 11 displays a part of a circuit diagram of the periphery of said circuit element on the CRT 5. At the same time, a part of a circuit diagram of the periphery of said circuit element in the tracking process is also displayed based on said specific information registered by a prescribed command.
