PURPOSE:To suppress fogging and to increase the sensitivity by using normal crystal particles as a specified amt. or more of silver halide particles and chloride particles as a specified amt. or more of the normal crystal particles, and by chemically sensitizing the silver halide particles in the presence of a gold compd. CONSTITUTION:When silver halide particles are incorporated into the emulsion layer of a photographic sensitive material, normal crystal particles having no twin face are used as >=70% of the number of the silver halide particles, chloride particles are used as >=50mol.% of the amt. of the normal crystal particles and the total surface area of the silver halide particles is regulated to >=30% the surface area of the (111) crystal faces. The silver halide particles are chemically sensitized in the presence of a gold or sulfur compd., and formed the photographic sensitive material. The resulting photographic sensitive material is color-developed in the presence of a color coupler. Fogging is suppressed, the sensitivity is increased and rapid development is enabled. Fogging with the lapse of time is also suppressed and uniform finished quality can be attained.
