PURPOSE:To reference a message of an important opposite party with priority by storing received messages for each opposite party in the automatic answering mode while classifying them, deciding a selection number in the message reference mode and generating a reception message for each opposite party corresponding to the said selection number. CONSTITUTION:When a reception message reference mode is set by the user at first, the content of a telephone directory comprising a selection number 190, an opposite party name 191, and an opposite party telephone number 192 is displayed on a display device 19. The user inputs a selection number of an opposite party desired for the received message based on the content of the display device 19 from a keyboard 20. On the other hand, a control section 4 (reception message reference processing part 4d) supervises whether or not a selection number is inputted and recognizes the selection number immediately. Then the control section 4 (reception message reference processing part 4d) accesses a reception message storage section 15, and the said reception message is reproduced through a D/A converter 16 and a speaker amplifier 17 from a speaker 18.
