PURPOSE:To surely, accurately and homogeneously work a beam made of a long-sized steel pipe, etc., by inserting a diaphragm to fit an inwall of the steel pipe into the steel pipe and positioning therein and afterward, controlling a torch of welding equipment so as to move relatively along a fillet part while welding the same part. CONSTITUTION:The long-sized steel pipe 1 is centered and fixed in the longitudinal axial direction to the shaft center of an insertion shaft 8. Next, the diaphragm 6 is subjected to edge-preparation and fitted to a chuck 9 of the tip of the insertion shaft 8. Next, the insertion shaft 8 is shifted in the direction of the shaft center by a mechanism of a rack 13 and a pinion 14 and the diaphragm 6 and an automatic welding machine 10 are inserted into the steel pipe 1. The centering of the insertion shaft 8 is performed by a center positioning device 11 to perform the welding. In this way, the beam made of the long-sized steel pipe, etc., is worked surely, accurately and homogeneously.
