PURPOSE:To obtain a correct measured value, by a method wherein a sample is extracted by a chloroform-methanol mixed liquid, the extraction liquid is dried and, after hydrolysis, extracted by an oil ether to analyze sterols in the extraction liquid by chromatography. CONSTITUTION:A fixed amount of sample is extracted by a mixed liquid of chloroform and methanol and the extraction liquid is dried to obtain a solid matter. The solid matter is treated with methanol containing potassium hydroxide and effective components of royal jelly are hydrolyzed into sterols. Then, the sterols are extracted by oil ether and analyzed on a gas chromatography device. As campesterol in natural material is very limited excluding royal jelly, the content of royal jelly can be determined accurately by measuring the amount of campesterol.
