A process for producing an indicator for temperature monitoring of a cooled or deep-frozen product such as packed foods, medicines, etc., provides an indicator which shows when a specified critical temperature of the cooled or deep-frozen product is exceeded. An easy-to-use and cost-favourable producible indicator is produced by casting a substance that is liquid or semi-liquid above the critical temperature into a defined geometric form and then cooling the substance until it assumes a fixed shape below the critical temperature. The critical temperature can lie in this case above or below 0 degrees Celsius. The change in the aggregate condition of the liquid substance must lie in this case in the vicinity of the critical temperature of the cooled or deep-frozen product so that when the critical temperature of the cooled or deep-frozen product is exceeded in terms of thawing, the frozen indicator irreversibly loses its defined geometric shape and consequently provides tamper-proof indication of thawing of the cooled or deep-frozen product.
