Apparatus for continuously decatizing fabrics 6 in an autoclave 1 and comprises a rotatable apertured roller 2 inside the autoclave 1 which provides a continuous pressurised steam flow through the holes of the roller 2 and which includes inlet and outlet slots 4, 5, a continous loop of auxiliary cloth 3 entering and leaving the autoclave 1 and trained about the roller 2 to press the fabric 6, a second loop of cloth 18 entering and leaving the autoclave 1 for guiding the fabric along its path that is out of engagement with the roller 2, pairs of spring biased rollers 28, 29 and 30, 31 disposed outside of and extending the length of slots 4, 5 to provide a transverse seal, gaskets (39, 39) contacting fabric edges at the slots to provide a lateral seal, differential speed driving means 13, 15, 16, 12, 14, 17 to control tension on cloth 3, and a fabric cooling device including a suction chamber 21 and a compressed air chamber 22. Roller (2) diameter is not less than 40% of the autoclave inner diameter. A demountable wall 27 includes slots 4, 5 and supports rollers 28, 29, 30, 31. The apparatus solves any problem of seal and continuity of cloths 3, 18. <IMAGE>
