The invention relates to a device for the contactless linear measuring of pipes or rods with the aid of sensors which are arranged at least in the region of the pipe ends at fixed intervals laterally next to the pipe or rod and which sense the position of the pipe or rod, and with the aid of a displacement-measuring device for sensing the distance of the end of the pipe or rod from at least one of the sensors alongside it and also with the aid of a computer for processing the measured values and signals to give a measurement result. To provide a simple and robust device, the accuracy and measuring speed of which is not impaired by the masses to be measured, it is proposed that the sensors (5, 6) be arranged on a crossmember (3) which extends over the length of the longest pipe (1) or rod to be measured and can be moved parallel to the pipe or rod by a displacing distance which can be sensed by the displacement-measuring device and corresponding to the interval between two neighbouring sensors (5, 6). <IMAGE>
