Fitting with two arms which can be pivoted towards each other, in particular for the adjustment of the inclination of the backrest relative to the seat in car seats. At least one external toothing, which is operated via an eccentric hand wheel, meshes with two internal toothings, the number of teeth of which differs by at least one tooth, in such a manner that the external toothing is in engagement with the two internal toothings, each of the arms being provided with one of the internal toothings. The external toothing(s) (26), connected to the eccentric (12), can be displaced sufficiently in the axial direction for one of the two internal toothings (18 or 19) to be disengaged and hence one arm (2) can be moved freely with respect to the other arm (4). <IMAGE>
