A copier produces multicoloured visible pictures with the aid of at least two different colour toners which are stuck separately and electrostatically on corresponding latent images. Each latent image has a predetermined polarity and a specific potential which is different from the other one. The copier has a scorotron charger to charge the image carrier with a polarity, which is the same as the stipulated polarity, in order essentially to match the potentials of each latent image before the multicoloured visible picture is transferred to a sheet.
