The invention relates to a brake system for commercial vehicles in which each brake has four brake discs carrying friction lining material. Arranged between the brake discs are application units which can be actuated directly by compressed air, these application units being assigned two independent actuating circuits and being capable of separate actuation by the driver. It is thus possible for all four wheel brakes, with a total of eight application devices, to be used for service braking and auxiliary braking. To obtain a parking brake, a spring brake cyclinder arrangement is used. <IMAGE>
