PURPOSE:To enable a continuity test of a multiple interconnection along with a higher detection capacity of a deficiency mode, by classifying the wiring state of a reference cable according to a pattern for storage in a test thereof previously conducted to be compared with a pattern of a cable to be tested. CONSTITUTION:A reference cable 4 is connected between connectors 3 and 5 and test information from a memory section 9 is converted into cable checking information 61-6n with a decoder section 7 to be sent out. An encoder section 1 encodes signals 21-2n received from the reference cable 4 to be sent to a control section 8 with which the resulting codes are classified according to a pattern to be stored into an expected value memory section 10. When testing a cable to be tested, the cable being tested is connected between the connectors 3 and 4 to send test information to the decoder section 7. The control section 8 compares an output pattern of the encoder section 1 with the pattern read out of the expected value memory section 10 by a comparison section 11 to judge the quality of the cable being tested based on the results of comparison. The results of judgement are shown on a display section 12.
