A planar display construction, in particular an electro-luminescent display, with integrally mounted integrated circuits, comprises a printed circuit board (1) with at least one first set (G) of contact pads; a display panel (3), preferably of glass, spaced from and parallel to the printed circuit board (1) and having at least one second set (H) of contact pads; mounting means (5, 6) for the physical attachment of the printed circuit board (1) to the display panel (3); and at least one contact assembly (7....9) with leads (8, 9) for the electrical connection of the first set of contact pads (G) to the second set of pads (H). Each contact assembly comprises at least one integrated circuit (7), a set (8) of entering leads for the connection of the IC (7) to the first set (G) of contact pads and a set (9) of exiting leads for the connection of the IC (7) to the second set (H) of contact pads. The number of entering leads (8) is equal to the number of contact pads in the first set (G), and is considerably smaller than the number of exiting leads (9), which is equal to the number of contact pads in the second set (H). <IMAGE>
